About Me - Sarah Elizabeth Holmes

WELCOME to my gallery of original artwork!

I have been drawing and painting since I was a child. My early love for art led to many commissions whilst still a teenager, during which time my school art teacher reported that my portrait painting was ‘little short of a revelation’. This spurred me on in my ambition to become a professional artist and so I was entered for Art ‘O’-Level’ examination in 1983 when I was only fourteen and gained a Grade A. One year later I passed Art ‘A-Level’.

In 1987 I won First Prize (‘The Dawson Cup’) at the Haltemprice Art Exhibition in East Yorkshire and won the national ‘Artists & Illustrator’s Magazine competition for drawing a year later.

After leaving school I studied Art and Design at the Humberside College of Art and Design and the History of Art at the University of Hull, East Yorkshire.

Now living in Cumbria, I am a member of the Barrow Society of Artists. Over the years my work has sold privately around the country, and as far away as Malawi in Africa and I have exhibited and sold work in Hull, Beverley, York, Grasmere, Barrow in Furness and Kendal.

I produce work on a variety of subjects, including animals, landscapes, portraits, still life and flowers and use medium such as pastels, pen and ink, oil colours, watercolours, and pencil.

I hope you enjoy visiting my on-line gallery. My website is updated on a regular basis – so please come again!
